The collision that keeps moving
Sideswipe accidents can happen when two cars are traveling in the same direction or opposite directions and are characterized by 2 or more vehicles colliding lengthwise. According to the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS), there are about 242,000 sideswipe collisions each year, resulting in over 2,500 fatalities and about 27,000 injuries. Even low impact collisions of this type can result in serious blunt force and penetrative trauma injuries, as the initial impact can cause one or more of the vehicles to spin out of control, resulting in secondary collisions. Injuries commonly associated with sideswipe accidents include traumatic brain injury (TBI), whiplash, back and/or spinal cord injuries, bruises and contusions, penetrative injuries and broken or crushed limbs.
