Scholarship Video Essay Topic
The “Survivors Speak: Catastrophic Injuries That Changed Lives” Scholarship asks students to consider the following question:
Have you experienced an unfortunate event – a motor vehicle accident, an explosion, or a similar incident – that left you or a loved one with catastrophic injuries? If so:
- How did you overcome the challenges involved in living with your injuries?
- What hardships did you face throughout your recovery?
- How did your accident shape you into the person you are today?
- What advice would you give your younger self?
Rockpoint Legal Funding requests that scholarship applicants answer these questions in a 30 to 60-second video essay. Students can upload these essays as unlisted videos to their YouTube accounts. Applicants must then include a link to that unlisted video in their scholarship application form.
Scholarship Video Essay Requirements
Rockpoint Legal Funding requests that students creating video essays:
- Record their videos in well-lit areas
- Hold their recording devices as still as possible
- Mention their full name and the name of the scholarship they are applying for either at the beginning or at the end of their video
- Specify any sources of information and the media editing tools used in crafting and creating their videos in the description of the video.
- Use only copyright-free content
- Come up with a creative, catchy title that reflects their ideas
The team encourages students to use media editing tools, like Adobe Creative Cloud, to make their videos stand out from the crowd. Students can use stock shots, effects, and clean cuts in their content. These additional edits are not required. Students will not be penalized or disqualified if they do not edit their videos.
Can Students Use AI to Create Their Scholarship Video Essays?
Rockpoint Legal Funding notes that students can use AI to generate B-roll footage. However, the stories that students share should be read in their own voices and produced by themselves.
Any usage of AI platforms to automatically generate videos, and the use of fake actors without appearing in their own video is strictly prohibited and will lead to automatic disqualification.
